After 11 years of facilitating this course together Caroline and Taelor have formatted this course in a way that everyone has really enjoyed. It is an intensive and accessible to those of us will full lives and is enriched with tons of content plus hands on learning.
Each participant will have access to the online lectures to watch and rewatch at your convenience. We will reinforce lectures with hands on learning opportunities every Saturday for 5 weeks. Each participant also gains access to a treasure trove of resources including at home activities to help guide you along your design process, plant lists specific to Central Texas, past designs by APG students, links to many local organizations and resources and personal connections to a thriving community. This course is more than a class, it is a gateway to relating to the world through a new paradigm and an activation into solution based mindset.
We are committed to learning real hands-on practices so that you feel confident in building a garden, growing your own food, and getting the resources together for a wide array of restorative projects. Students will finish this course with a toolbox of design techniques and strategies as well as connections with a thriving community of people who can help guide them towards new opportunities to learn, volunteer and work in various fields of interest related to sustainability.
Required reading: Gaia’s Garden by Toby Hemenway.
This course includes virtual learning and hands-on guided lessons from facilitators Caroline Riley, Taelor Monroe and guest lecturers. It features hands-on learning activities, including your final site design project. Each lecture will have additional readings for reflection and additional resources for personal extensions. The final design project sites are chosen from students’ properties. Each student will create a conceptual permaculture design map and choose at least one dedicated area to solidify in all of the details needed to implement.
